Stromanthe Triostar
The Triostar is the showstopper of the prayer-plant family — leaves splashed with green, cream, and pink, and vivid magenta undersides that flash as the foliage moves and folds at night. It's grown purely for that colour, and the colour depends on getting the light right: bright but indirect, never direct sun, never too dim.
Like its calathea and maranta relatives it's thirsty for humidity and fussy about water, preferring filtered or rainwater to keep the variegated leaf edges from browning. Keep it evenly moist, warm, and humid, and it rewards you with one of the most striking foliage displays you can grow indoors.
Bright indirect light keeps the pink-and-cream variegation vivid; too little light dulls it, direct sun burns it.
Use filtered or rainwater; sensitive to tap-water minerals
Low — keep to a consistent rhythm and don't let it dry out hard.
Non-toxic and pet-safe.
Keep evenly moist with filtered or rainwater
Keep humidity high with a tray or grouping
Feed with a dilute balanced fertiliser
Fading colour means too little light; brown edges mean dry air or minerals
Divide and refresh the soil
