Pothos
Pothos is the plant everyone should start with: a fast, forgiving trailer that grows in almost any light, roots from a cutting in a glass of water, and tells you clearly when it's thirsty by going soft and droopy, then perks up within hours of a drink.
Train it up a pole for big leaves or let it cascade off a shelf for long vines. The golden, marble, and neon varieties all behave the same; only the variegated ones need brighter light to hold their pattern. It's hard to overstate how hard this plant is to kill — the main risk is letting it sit soggy.
Adaptable from low to bright indirect; variegated types need brighter light to keep their pattern.
